Which roughly translates to a network of church-linked youth and community projects located in some of Britain’s most deprived neighbourhoods. The first Eden team in the Merseyside region started in July 2013 and is partnering with Emmanuel Baptist Church in Netherton.
The team is led by myself, Tom Grant, alongside my wife Emma (that’s us in the photo). We are excited to see how God is going to move in this community through the lives of the Eden Team He is placing here.
Netherton is one of the most deprived parts of the Merseyside region – in fact statistically speaking it is amongst the top 1% of the most deprived communities in the country. What this means in real terms is high levels of unemployment, generational poverty, poor health and widespread educational underachievement.
As Christians we recognise that many of the problems in the neighbourhood are not simply social but also spiritual. That’s why the church has a vital part to play in any plans for the lasting transformation of the neighbourhood. Emmanuel Baptist Church has been active in the area for many years and its congregation sense God stirring them to commit further to building relationships and seeing social transformation come about through missional living. We will be working together to see the lives of many young people and their families changed by the love of God.
