Getting To Us

Getting to us

Freedom

Sunday 03rd April 2011

Hi All
Small groups are going extremely well and many of you are enjoying the challenge and fellowship these provide. The theme we have been following in our Sunday service has been “Freedom” and the fact that Jesus came to set us free. (Gal 5:1) This theme came about because of a conversation I had around a dinner table with a woman who used to go to church when she was younger but became disillusioned. Her observation was that “religion was all about control” and while I might not totally agree this is the perception she gets from what we communicate. This one conversation has shaped our services ever since and I believe is having a huge effect in the life of our Church. If you aren’t in a small group you really are missing out so do your best to get involved or consider forming a new one.

The Leaders recently set out how they would like to see Church developing over the next couple of years in terms of our building and structure. We really want to see our building used more as an asset to the community of Netherton and are seeking ways to improve the building accordingly. We are also looking at employing someone a few hours a week initially to develop links with the community. Please pray about this as it will be a step of faith and we would like to see it expand further.

Eden Bus Ministries are looking to partner with us to provide a mobile youth centre that will work in the Netherton area on a weekly basis. We are really excited about this and hope you will be also. This project will require a lot of volunteers and commitment, Julie Mason from Eden will be sharing at Church on the 1st May hopefully to inspire you to be involved.

On a personal level I continue with my college studies and being shaped for ministry. I believe there has never been a better time to do ministry than right now as this is the only time we have. The challenge of seeing the vision God has burdened our hearts with is great but nothing is impossible to God; if he said it, it will come to pass. Recently I have been reflecting on this and sense that God wants us to think bigger than the already massive task he has gifted us with. I believe he wants us to look towards community transformation to see the whole of Netherton blessed and fulfilled. This is no mean task and requires us to have a long term view of how we will see this happen but start with the small steps we can do and trust God to direct them. (Jer 29:11) I am scared but excited.

Please pray for God’s protection on my home, myself and family. A lot of things have broken down latterly which just causes me inconvenience. I know this happens to everyone but it will be good to know your praying for me.

Be Blessed
Allan
